La Academia is seeking high-energy, visionary, and dynamic educators to join our staff of a Wilmington, Delaware based Charter Elementary School that uses Expeditionary Learning (EL), a nationally recognized education model, to drive the instruction in a dual-language setting. The first of its kind in Delaware, the school applies EL's project based approach to learning while teaching all students in both English and Spanish. JOB TITLE: Technology Teacher

STATUS: Part Time, Exempt Position


A part-time Technology Teacher is a vocational educator in the field of computer science and related technological areas who coaches and teaches students in the fundamentals of computer software and hardware.


• Creates lesson plans that are appropriate for the age and abilities of the students in the class

• Coordinate and monitor each student's learning plan

• Provide direct instruction and academic support to support integrated expeditions

• Conduct long and short-term planning to address the individual needs of students

• Develop lesson plans that ensure the attainment of state learning standards and the additional specific grade-by-grade learning standards set forth in the charter

• Maintains computer laboratories and keeps an inventory of supplies

• Ensures that computer equipment is functioning properly

• Ensures that the internet in the classroom is used only for appropriate educational purposes.

• Keeps all classroom work backed up

• Keeps order in the classroom and handles student behavior issues in accordance with School policies

• Stays up-to-date on changes and advancements in computer technology

• Co-plan and co-teach with other teachers to reinforce student knowledge

• Prepare students adequately for all required assessments and exhibitions

• Evaluate students' progress and prepare student achievement reports for parents as required

• Provide an inviting, exciting, innovative, learning environment

• Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management

• Work collaboratively with other staff

• Maintain professional competence through participation in professional development activities

• Attend meetings and other activities, as determined by the school leader


• Must have exceptional computer skills.

• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Must have knowledge of a wide range of computer technologies

• Must have excellent trouble shooting skills.

• Must have superior dexterity for keyboarding and operating a mouse.

• Must have excellent critical thinking and analytical skills.

• Must have strong organizational and time management skills.

• Must have understanding of computer monitors, central processing units, operating systems, hard drives and file storage.

• Must be detailed oriented and mechanically inclined.

• Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience in elementary education.

• Experience in bilingual settings highly preferred. Experience with learner-centered, project-based approaches highly desirable.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.

Reports To: Head of School

Start Date: 2017-2018 School Year

Certification: Current Delaware License eligible

Standard Requirements:

• Favorable Criminal Background Check for the candidate who is offered employment

• Tuberculin test and physical

• Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all new employees hired after December 31, 1995
